Released in 2022 by L'Artisan and created by Daphné Bugey, Abyssae is built around a sharply defined image: Portugal’s eucalyptus forests and the vision of a dark woodland that recalls the depth of the sea. That tension between vegetal freshness and submerged darkness shapes a unisex 75 ml Eau de Parfum that moves through fougère, aromatic and woody territory with quiet precision.
The opening is driven by eucalyptus, bringing an immediate impression of cool air, damp leaves and green shade. It does not read as freshness for its own sake, but as the threshold to something denser and more contemplative. At the heart, Damask rose and fig shift the composition into a softer, more textured register. The rose lends depth and floral nuance, while fig adds a smooth, milky vegetal facet that links the clarity of the opening to a more enveloping development.
The base is where Abyssae settles into its full atmosphere. Cashmeran introduces a warm, tactile softness, almost fabric-like in feel, while ambergris suggests a mineral humidity that reinforces the perfume’s sense of depth. Incense and oakmoss darken the structure with restraint, and vetiver and cedar give the woody framework a clean, steady backbone. Centifolia rose appears again in the drydown, extending the floral theme in a more nuanced, shaded way rather than pushing it forward.
