Created by Olivia Giacobetti and launched in 1996, Philosykos holds a distinctive place within the Diptyque universe. Its inspiration comes from a summer memory in Greece, on Mount Pelion, and from a desire to pay tribute to the entire fig tree: not only its fruit, but also the shade of its leaves, its milky sap and the calm, dry presence of its wood. That complete vision gives the fragrance a clear identity—recognisable, refined and quietly evocative.
The opening centres on fig leaf and fig, unfolding with a green, luminous and slightly crisp character that feels like warm air moving through sunlit branches. This is not an overly sweet interpretation of fig, but a precise vegetal freshness with a tactile quality, placing the composition in a serene Mediterranean setting filled with light.
At the heart, fig milk and green notes bring a softer, more enveloping texture. A creamy nuance appears here, delicate rather than rich, recalling the flesh of the fruit and the white sap released when a leaf is broken. The fragrance becomes more intimate without losing its transparency, and this balance between freshness and gentle depth is part of what makes it so elegant. It suggests a very specific feeling: stillness, sun-warmed skin, the hush of an afternoon outdoors.
The base of fig wood, fig tree and cedar adds structure and depth. The fragrance settles into a dry, clean, natural woody trail that reinforces the idea of the whole tree and keeps the composition from becoming simply fruity. Philosykos reads as a coherent olfactory portrait—green, woody and aromatic, with a restrained beauty that speaks of landscape, memory and texture. In its 100 ml Eau de Toilette format, it retains the pared-back signature style that has made this creation a modern reference for fig in perfumery.
