Velvet Iris

Launched in 2025 by Essential Parfums, VELVET IRIS begins with a clear creative idea: to translate the velvety touch of iris petals into a woody, sensual fragrance. Rather than presenting iris as something powdery or aloof, the composition gives it body and tactile presence. It feels close to the skin, shaped around texture as much as scent, with a refined balance between floral elegance and woody depth. The opening creates an immediate, vivid contrast. Buchu, or agathosma, introduces an aromatic facet with a distinctive edge, while pink pepper lifts the composition with a fresh, airy spice. Tamarind brings a subtle tart nuance that keeps the opening lively and flexible, adding movement before the softer core fully unfolds. It is an introduction with brightness and tension, like the cool first impression of touching a petal before its softness settles in. At the heart, orris and iris define the fragrance’s central character. They are joined by galbanum and mastic, which bring a green, resinous tension that keeps the floral theme from becoming too polished or ornamental. This structure gives the iris a more sculpted presence: elegant, modern, and deeply material. What emerges is a very specific sensation, a dense softness with a quiet sensuality, as though something smooth and finely crafted still retained a trace of the raw plant. The base extends that mood with saffiano leather, sandalwood, and labdanum.
