Eccco by Manuel Mathieu is conceived as a fresh, cathartic rebirth. Its official inspiration begins with a striking image: a volcanic eruption covers île noire, and from those ashes ECCCO emerges as a new beginning. That dialogue between destruction and renewal shapes the fragrance from the outset, giving it a composed, modern presence. Launched in 2025 and created by Juliette Karagueuzoglou, Eccco translates this idea through a woody structure that feels precise rather than overtly dramatic.
The opening combines black lemon, lemon heart and turmeric leaf. The effect is not merely citrusy: it is bright, yet also dry, spiced and subtly rugged, suggesting matter in the process of transformation. The first impression feels like clean air charged with mineral energy, as though light were returning to a disrupted landscape. This freshness is not weightless or innocent; it has texture and a refined tension that immediately supports the creative narrative.
At the heart, patchouli, mineral moss and sandalwood guide the composition into more grounded territory. This is where the fragrance finds its axis: a sober texture of polished woods and stony facets, with the mineral dimension adding depth without turning severe. Sandalwood softens the structure, while patchouli brings a darker, measured pulse that links the luminous top to a denser, more tactile base.
That base of vetiver, saffiano leather and vanilla pod extends the idea of reconstruction with a more material finish. Vetiver lends lift and definition; saffiano leather introduces a refined, almost architectural accent; vanilla pod smooths the edges rather than turning sweet. The result is a clear emotional impression: the calm that follows impact, when everything feels sharper, more essential and unexpectedly full of light.
