Venenum

Created by Daphné Bugey for L'Artisan Parfumeur in 2016, Venenum is built around a clear and evocative idea: “the fragrance of Indian memories that come and go.” Rather than illustrating a place too literally, it captures the shifting nature of memory itself through notes that suggest warmth, spice, nourishment and wood. It feels reflective and composed, with the kind of understated storytelling that allows each material to shape the mood with precision. The opening of masala chai sets the tone immediately. It brings a spiced warmth, of course, but also the impression of fragrant steam rising from a carefully prepared cup. There is energy in the spice, yet the effect is not sharp or restless. Instead, the note introduces Venenum with a sense of closeness and ease, as if the fragrance were already part of an interior scene rather than something projected outward. At the heart, rice and bread give the composition its most distinctive gesture. These notes move the scent into a softer, more grounded register, adding a tactile, almost comforting density. They evoke the familiarity of simple food, the quiet pleasure of warmth, and the emotional clarity of everyday rituals. This is where the perfume becomes especially memorable: not through excess, but through the sincerity of its texture and the calm confidence of its construction. Sandalwood in the base gathers everything into a smooth, woody trail. Its creamy character supports the spiced opening and the tender heart without overpowering them, giving the composition structure and continuity. The result is a woody Eau de Parfum with an intimate emotional core—measured, serene and quietly addictive.
